Formula
Mass and weight are technically different (weight depends on gravity, mass doesn't) but everyday usage treats them as the same. This calculator handles mass conversions — they're identical to weight conversions on Earth.
Watch out for tons: 1 metric tonne = 1000 kg. 1 US short ton = 907.185 kg (2000 lb). 1 UK long ton = 1016.05 kg (2240 lb). Different industries use different defaults — shipping commonly uses metric tonnes, US construction uses short tons, UK older sources use long tons.
1 pound is defined as exactly 0.45359237 kg since the international agreement of 1959. 1 ounce = 1/16 pound. The stone (14 lb) is still common in UK personal-weight context.
